Basic Spiritualism
Overview
The course itself consists of five modules each with a number of sections incorporated within them, and the headings are as follows:
Module 1: An introduction to spiritualism
This module involves the study of the seven principles of spiritualism, the belief of life after death, the re-birth of spiritualism, the beginning of modern spiritualism and spiritualist healing. It includes a reading list.
Module 2: Basic spiritualism including history
This module covers an introduction to spiritualism, the states of mediumship, and how to run a circle.
Module 3: Essay writing on a set study subject
Module 4: Public speaking
How to prepare a lecture and how to present that lecture.
Module 5: Final essay
The essay subject is set by tutors. Each student may have a different subject.
Modules 1, 2 and 4 have a test paper associated with it.
Outcomes
True spiritualism or modern spiritualism commenced in 1848 with the Fox sisters in Hydesville, New York.
“Basic Spiritualism” is a correspondence study course and the goal is to widen your knowledge of true spiritualism. The diploma awarded upon completion bestows the right to use after your name Dip.BS ICS (Aust).

A Basic Introduction to Awareness of Children and Young People
This course gives the student a basic knowledge of how to interact with children and young people. It relates to laws and requirements for mandatory reporting. There are no test papers, a written essay of 5,000 to 5,500 words is required.
This correspondence course gives a basic outline on the approach that is required when counselling children.
Grief counselling
This correspondence course allows a student to study basics of grief counselling. The course will give you an insight into personalities, acquired attributes and how people react to different situations. Once a questionnaire is completed and accepted, a certificate of completion is issued by Rev Margaret McGregor.
Ministers’ course
The following courses must first be completed before this course can be undertaken: Basic Spiritualism, Counselling Children and Grief Counselling.
Overview
The course is structured into five sections, which are:
Section 1 – introduction, ordination and obligation
Section 2 – relevant information, protocols involved, spiritualist church services and the Seven Principles of Spiritualism.
Section 3 – marriages and other types of nuptial services
Section 4 – funerals, burials, and funeral protocol
Section 5 – naming services
Upon completion of the course, a certificate is issued which is legally recognised as a part of the education program through the ICS Inc.
